Ananda defeats Nalanda

Ananda College beat their traditional rivals Nalanda College by 38 runs in their 42nd annual Battle of the Maroons limited over cricket encounter played at the SSC Grounds in Maitland Place yesterday.


Nalanda won the toss and elected to field and Ananda went on to make 271 in 50 overs. Deputy Skipper Kavishka Anjula scored an unbeaten 100 in 78 balls with eight boundaries and five sixes. Sammu Ashan scored 54.
Kavishka Anjula and Dinuka Gimhana (30) added 96 for the ninth wicket, while Sammu Ashan and Ashel Sigera (30) added 76 for the fourth wicket.


In reply, Nalanda were bowled out for 233 in 48.2 overs. Lakshitha Rasanjana (71) and Nimnaka Ratnayake (71) put on 134 for the second wicket.
Ashel Sigera captured three wickets for 33 and Dileepa Jayalath claimed two wickets for 42.
