Champika’s nemesis looms menacingly

Friends of the victim Sandeep Sampath Gunawardena, Siddique Mohammed Sufar and Gayashan Vinura had lodged a complaint at the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission regarding several allegations which includes the complaint made to the Welikada Police in connection with Sandeep being knocked down and injured while riding......on a motor cycle, allegedly by a jeep driven by Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka had not been written down in the actual Complaints Book but in another book.

The latest complaint being that, the complaint had not been given to the complainants to read prior to signing and the Welikada Police had acted with favouration towards Minister Ranawaka.

According to the complaint made on the 18th, the other accusations made are not arresting the driver Champika Ranawaka, who after the accident fled the scene and taking into custody only the jeep and the fact that a proper investigation has not been carried out up to now.

At about 10 at night on the 28th of February when this accident took place in Rajagiriya, the two complainants who were the two friends of the victim had chased after the jeep when it was fleeing from the scene and stopped it. When the front door of the vehicle was opened by Champika, although he had said "don't hit me, I am Minister Champika," the complaint made to the Commission states that several hours after the incident a complaint was made at the Welikada Police.
